Given its upmarket London location in the St James's area, Italian restaurant Al Duca is surprisingly affordable. A real favourite in these parts of London, Al Duca is a haven for theatre goers and lovers of good Italian food, and is almost always busy and buzzing. The dining room is simply decorated in pale wood with attractive Mediterranean style terracotta flooring and mosaic tiles and is bright and airy. Part of the well respected restaurant empire of Claudio Pulze, Al Duca really does deliver on reasonably priced great quality Italian cuisine.
The menu is full of flavoursome Italian dishes where you may start with something like swordfish carpaccio with black olives, cherry tomatoes and lemon vinaigrette or grilled smoked scamorza cheese with chargrilled aubergines and black olives. Main courses include calves liver with Marsala, spinach and pine nuts, roasted cod fillet with cannellini beans, spring onions and fresh tomatoes or spaghetti with crab, white wine, chilli and garlic. The wine list features an extensive list of Italian wines including some lesser known varieties from South Tyrol as well as an amazing ion of grappas.
