When Thomas Rule set up his oyster bar in Covent Garden in 1798, he could not have foreseen that the restaurant would still be open today.
Now the oldest restaurant in London, Rules is a true statement of refined London dining. It’s not surprising that the restaurant on Maiden Lane has a star-studded heritage. Household names from the world of literature and cinema have adopted Rules as the unofficial “Green Room” to wine and dine.
The menu is distinctly British and specialises in classic game cookery, oysters, pies and puddings. The Steak & Kidney pie is a real treat, and there are some real tempters on the menu alongside this. Braised Shortrib of English Rose Veal, Breast of Gressingham Duck and an impressive Dover Sole are just some of the choices on the a la carte menu.
