The best places for dinner in London

We are undoubtedly spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out in London. Although the exact numbers are difficult to confirm, the food standards agency keeps tabs on all food serving establishments, and there are currently almost 40,000 places serving food in London! So, with this in mind, where do you start when it comes to picking the place best suited for you?

The team at Best London Restaurants have picked their favourite restaurants in central London that we think you'll love.

Kitty Fisher's London

10 Shepherd Market, Mayfair, London W1J 7QF

A gem of a restaurant in Shepherd Market, Mayfair. Kitty Fisher's takes its name from the infamous 18th Century courtesan who live in the area. A relatively small restaurant set over two floors, this is the place to go for a romantic meal in London. You'll expect to pay a premium for the exquisitely prepared dishes, but head chef George Barson will deliver some of the finest food in Mayfair. The menu has a selection of smaller dishes alongside some mouth-watering mains. Smoked Eel, Confit Trout and Lamb with wild garlic and onions are some of the dishes you can expect.

Hutong at the Shard

Level 33 The Shard, 31 St Thomas Street, London SE1 9RY

The Shard is attracting a growing number of restaurants and Hutong is one of the best. Sensational views are to be expected and some of the best Chinese food in London too. It's not cheap, so look out for the set menus which will give you a flavour of what Hutong has to offer. That said, if you're looking to push the boat out with a glitzy meal in London, opt for the Signature Menu for dinner. Roasted Peking duck, Red Lantern crispy soft-shell crab and Yam & pork belly crispy dumpling are some of the dishes that jump out.

Texture Restaurant

34 Portman Street, Marylebone, London W1H 7BY

Texture aims to satisfy all your senses with a dining experience that is inspired by modern European cuisine with a sprinkle of Scandinavian to boot. A lovingly refurbished Georgian building awaits and head chef Karl O’Dell, alongside Aggi Sverrisson, prepare Michelin-starred food to lift the soul. You'll pay a pretty handsome price for some of the a la carte dishes, but we do recommend the Icelandic cod with avocado and prawns. There's a good variety of menus including a Vegan Tasting Menu and good private dining options.

The Cinnamon Club

The Old Westminster Library, 30-32 Great Smith Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3BU

Renowned restaurateur Vivek Singh brings Indian fine dining to this beautiful Grade II listed building that was once home to Westminster Library. The distinctive culinary style set against a really impressive backdrop of the library walls make this a fine dining experience indeed. There is something for everyone on the varied menu choice. Expect showcase dishes and experimental cuisine on the a la carte. Banana chilli filled with fenugreek, Balmoral Estate Tandoori Venison Loin, Char-grilled halibut with Kerala Curry sauce and Norfolk free range chicken breast in Hyderabadi korma sauce are just a few of the temptations at the Cinnamon Club.
